The Grundy County Yellow Jackets defeated the Bledsoe County Warriors, last Tuesday night, at GCHS, to keep the heat on the Cumberland County Jets for the number one seed in the District 7 AA tournament coming up in a couple of weeks. The Jackets rallied to defeat the Warriors 73 – 64 to improve to 6 – 1 in district play. The Jackets are 12 – 8 overall after Monday’s game against Richard Hardy (see below).
The Lady Jackets slipped to 2 – 5 in District 7 AA with a 60 – 44 loss to the Lady Warriors. The Lady Jackets second quarter struggles continue to hamper their opportunity to pick up a victory. The Lady Jackets are 8 – 11 overall.
The Lady Jackets and Jackets have four games left with three of those contests at the friendly confines of “Ricky Richards Gym” on the GCHS campus. Starting tonight (Thursday), the teams host Silverdale Baptist Academy with the Lady Jackets and the Lady Seahawks tipping off at 6 p.m.
Tomorrow night (Friday), the teams host Van Buren County with the girls’ game starting at 6 p.m. The Lady Eagles and the Jackets won the first contest between the two schools.
Next Tuesday night, the teams travel to Chattanooga Tyner to take on the Lady Rams and Rams. The girls’ game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. CST.
Finally, on Friday night of next week “Senior Night” will feature the last regular season home game for the senior players and cheerleaders and it will be a showdown for the top seed on the boys’ side with Cumberland County and the Jackets. The Jets are undefeated in district play and won the previous meeting 66 – 60. The girls’ game will begin at 6 p.m.
BCHS 60 Lady Jackets 44
The Lady Jackets seem to struggle in the second quarter of most games for some reason. The Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Jackets 22 – 8 in the second stanza which proved to be pivotal in the Lady Jacket loss. The Lady Jackets were led by sophomores Jordan McCullough and Abi Childers. The duo scored nine points each to lead the way. The Lady Jackets managed two three point shots made and was 8 – 18 from the line.
Jackets 73 BCHS 64
The Jackets won a hard fought battle with the Warriors by outscoring the Warriors 18 – 8 in the all-important fourth quarter. Juniors Jaden Ruehling (4 – 5) and Jordan Hackworth (4 – 4) combined for 8 – 9 free throws down the stretch to hold off the Warriors. The Warriors finished the game by hitting 14 – 15 from the charity stripe.

38 times and connecting on 25 to help pull out the victory. Ruehling led the way with 18 points, while senior Nathan Coffelt chipped in with 17 points. Hackworth added 16 markers with nine of those coming in the fourth quarter. Junior post Thaddaeus Blackburn added 12 points in the balanced attack.

Lady Jackets, Jackets race past Richard Hardy
The Grundy County Lady Yellow Jackets and Yellow Jackets used the mercy rule to race past the Lady Hawks and Hawks of Richard Hardy Memorial School on Monday night at “Ricky Richards Gym” on the GCHS campus.
The Lady Jackets subbed early and often and pulled away from their visitors with a 40 -8 second half. Fifteen Lady Jackets played and 12 of those young ladies dotted the scoring column. Jordan McCullough led the way with 14 points, while Kristen Stiefel and Abbi Childers scored 11 points each.
The Jackets raced out to a 33 – 2 lead to put the game out of reach early. The most exciting part of this game is when Richard Hardy (9) and the Jackets (6) combined for 15 three-point goals in a 33 – 31 second quarter won by the Jackets for a 66 – 33 halftime lead. The coaches mutually agreed to a running clock for the entire second half and the Jacket reserves saw plenty of action. Jaden Ruehling led the way with 18 points. Thaddaeus Blackburn added 13 points. Jordan Hackworth scored 12 points and Will Jackson scored 10 markers to make it four Jackets in double figures. Thirteen of fifteen Jackets that played scored.
