Baylor School won the combined and girls 2019 TISCA State Swimming & Diving Championships at UT in Knoxville over the weekend.

The Baylor girls claimed their second state title in a row with a victory over Harpeth Hall.  Harpeth Hall has won the Swimming World High School National Championship in both 2018 and 2019.

The Baylor School boys finished in a first place tie with the McCallie School with both teams scoring 248 points as the meet came down to the final relays.

This is the first time since 2013 that Baylor was able to take the combined, girls, and boys state championships.  The high school state meet is being held on the campus of the University of Tennessee at the Alan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center in Knoxville, TN.

Leading the way for the Baylor School was a state championship performance from junior Ellie Waldrep.  Waldrep claimed first in the 100-yard butterfly in a new school record and NISCA Automatic All-American time of 53.66.  She also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in an NISCA Automatic All-American time of 52.47.  The Baylor girls 200-yard freestyle relay of Ellie Waldrep, Jewel Gordon, Lydia Bohannon, and Logan Watson-Brown claimed the state title and recorded an Automatic All-American time of 1:34.37.  The Baylor School boys had some big time swims on Saturday evening.  Freshman Sam Flack swam his way to a third place finish in the 500 freestyle, while teammates Alex Borisov and Daniel Unhuryan finished 2nd and 3rd in the 100-yard breaststroke event.  The boys 200-yard freestyle relay of Will Tippett, Alex Borisov, Noah Althoff, and Aidan Sims took second in a NISCA All-American Consideration time of 1:25.59.  Finally, the girls 400-yard free relay team of Logan Watson-Brown, Lydia Bohannon, Caroline Schenck, and Lillie Boggs claimed third overall.  Their time of 3:30.80 is also a NISCA All-American Consideration time.  In the girls 1-meter diving competition Haley Rice finished fifth overall with a combined score of 350.75 .

Head Coach Dan Flack said, “Our girls top to bottom swam great! We only won one individual event, but everyone contributed to a great team win.  Two weeks ago our boys were dead in the water after McCallie beat us soundly. We were supposed to be second by over 50 points, but we did not listen to any of that.  We worked and raced, and I could not be prouder.”

Baylor also had a pair second place finishes in both the girls and boys 200-yard Medley Relay events.  The girls quartet of Ellie Waldrep, Jewel Gordon, Avery Wilson, and Bre Belcher finished with a NISCA Automatic All-American time of 1:43.40.  The boys relay of Nic Brando, Alex Borisov, Daniel Unhuryan, and Aidan Sims took second with an NISCA All-American Consideration time of 1:33.61.  Newcomers Logan Watson-Brown and Lillie Boggs had some big time swims for the girls in individual events.  Watson-Brown claimed third in the 200-yard freestyle swimming a NISCA All-American Consideration time of 1:49.86.  Freshman Lillie Boggs was equally impressive in the 200 IM taking third in a time of 2:04.17.  She also swam to a third place finish in the 500-yard freestyle recording an All-American Consideration time of 4:56.41.  On the boys, side senior Alex Borisov claimed third in the 200 IM swimming a time of 1:52.31.
