GPS Lacrosse Wins 20-1 Over Signal Mountain

  • Monday, March 9, 2020
GPS used a dominating midfield performance from a quartet of freshmen to beat Signal Mountain 20-1 in its 2020 home opener. Freshman Chapel Tremain, Ally McVay, Louise Brock, and Reagan Ziegler combined for 11 goals and 11 draw controls as the Bruisers dominated play from start to finish. In her second start of the season, Tremain picked up a hat trick to go with three ground balls and three draw controls. GPS led 11-1 at the half and used strong goalie play from another freshman, Harlan Porfiri, to shutout their opposition in the final 25 minutes of play.

GPS struck early in the first half as Ann Marie Lindley found the back of the net after a great feed from the team's lone senior, Maggie Kay Imorde, with 23:41 on the clock.
Less than two minutes later, sophomore CJ Polk, an all-region performer for the Bruisers' basketball season, fired one past the Eagle goalie from a free position shot. Ziegler scored unassisted early in the fourth minute of play, and the home team extended their lead to 4-0 with a goal from junior Stella Newbold less than four minutes later. At the 12:52 mark of the opening period, sophomore Evie Jackson scored her second goal of the day from an assist by Ada Pratt, and the Bruisers were in cruise control up 7-0.

Signal Mountain's lone goal came in the closing two minutes of the first half from Katelin Little off a free position shot after a Bruiser foul. Seven different GPS players would score in the second half. The 20 goals scored by the Bruisers were the most by GPS since a game last season on April 2 against Christian Academy of Knoxville.

Next up for the Bruisers is a home match against state powerhouse Harpeth Hall on Thursday at 7 PM.
