Oakland's Joseph Jordan, Central Magnet's Kailey Orr headline DNJ 2020 all-area swim teams

After big performances last year, Oakland senior Joseph Jordan and Central Magnet junior Kailey Orr repeated their outstanding swim seasons in 2019-20.

They also repeat as Daily News Journal swimmers of the year on the all-area swim teams.

Jordan, the boys swimmer of the year, captured two state titles and was also part of two relay teams that had top six finishes.

After finishing third in each event last year, Jordan captured the state title in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle while earning All-American times in both. His 200 free relay team finished third and his 400 free relay team finished sixth.

"I definitely improved a lot over these past years," Jordan said. "My freshman year I think I finished in the 60s in the 50 free and I didn't even (make) the cut for the 100 free.

"So I’ve been working pretty hard since then, really just trying to push myself to be uncomfortable every day, and after all the hard work it finally paid off, which is nice to see."

The 50 free and 100 free were also Orr's forte, as she finished fifth in the state in the 50 and sixth in the 100. Like Jordan, she was also part of two relay teams that had top-25 finishes in the state.

Central Magnet's Kailey Orr competes in the girls 100 backstroke at the county swim meet Sunday.
