Fairview's Brandon Parrish, a Clemson signee, has been named the Tennessee Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year for the second straight season.

The selection comes in a shortened senior season because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Parrish, who ended his career with 68 goals and 40 assists, was one of 40 players to take part in the Allstate All-America Cup in July. He's a two-time all-state honoree.

The Gatorade Player of the Year is based on athletic and academic performance as well as exemplary character shown on and off the field. Parrish is now a finalist for Gatorade's national player of the year award, which will be announced later this month.

Barnhart named Gatorade's top softball player: Goodpasture junior Aubrey Barnhart has been named the Tennessee Gatorade Softball Player of the Year.

Barnhart, a shortstop and catcher, hit .600 with a home run and eight RBIs in seven games before the season was canceled over COVID-19. She is the No. 3 prospect for the Class of 2021, according to Extra Inning Softball.

She hit .597 with four home runs and 28 RBIs in 2019.

“Aubrey is as talented as any player we’ve ever had or that I have ever seen in 31 years of coaching in this state,” Goodpasture coach Lee Phillips said. “She’s also one of the finest young ladies that I have ever known.”

Rossview assistant named Sycamore coach: Sycamore has named former Rossview assistant football coach Mark Hall as its next football coach.

Hall replaces Justin Robison, who resigned to be an assistant at Goodpasture.

This marks Hall's first high school head coaching position.

He has been an assistant at West Memphis Christian, Ezell-Harding, Middle Tennessee Christian and La Vergne.

Hall had been on Rossview's staff since 2015, when he served as the team's special teams coordinator. He's also been the defensive coordinator. This past year he was an assistant athletics director and facility/athletic field maintenance coordinator.

Mt. Pleasant to recognize Bassham: Mt. Pleasant will name its baseball field after coach Eddie Bassham, who started the program. Bassham led the school to three state runner-up finishes – 1989, 1998 and 2004.

Young to Bryan College: Recent Loretto graduate and Class A All-State basketball player Amauri Young, a 5-foot-11 guard, recently announced his commitment to Bryan College. Young averaged 19 points a game the past two seasons and scored more than 1,300 career points.
