The cross country teams of Franklin County and Huntland high schools competed in a meet Tuesday at Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill.
There were 151 total runners in action at the meet with 88 competing in the boys race and 63 running in the girls race.
Franklin County’s Aydan Yates took the top spot for the boys race as he finished first with a time 16:50. Yates finished about 14 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Coffee County’s Jacob Rutledge.
The Rebels also had two other runners crack the top 15 as Jayden Taylor completed the course with a time of 19:32 to finish seventh.
Braden Collins placed 12th for the meet with a mark of 20:02 for the day.
Pedro Garcia led the way for the Hornets on the day as he finished eighth in the boys race with a time of 19:58.
The next Huntland runner to cross the finish line would be Noah Thompson in 46th place with a time of 22:56. Teammate Blake Thompson narrowly missed the top 50 as he finished 52nd with a mark of 23:39.
The remaining runners for the Rebels and their times and placements for the day were Daniel Heath, 25th, 21:03; Owen Stewart, 28th, 21:29; Xander Brammer, 38th, 22:18; John Barnhill, 41st, 22:34; Sam Saylor, 59th, 24:28; and Cristian Fravel, 72nd, 26:13.
The remaining runners for the Hornets and their times and placements for the day were Iseal Martinez, 65th, 25:16; Dalton Howell, 82nd, 28:22; and Will Jolley, 83rd, 29:10.
In the team standings, the Rebels finished second out of nine teams with a team score of 69 while the Hornets finished eighth with a team score of 192. Coffee County took the top spot in the boys standings with a team score of 37.
On the girls side, the Rebelettes had three different runners crack the top 10 with the highest placement going to Erin Worthington in third place with a time of 22:52.
Teammate Kara McDaniel ran to a fourth-place finish as she was able to complete the course with a time of 23:16.
Zulema Martinez rounded out the high placements for the Rebelettes as she finished eighth with a mark of 23:57.
The Lady Hornets were able to get two runners into the top 20 for the day. Kami Riley ran to a 14th-place finish in the girls race as she crossed the finish line with a time of 25:57.
Anna Stevenson ran the course in 26:19 to finish in 17th place for the day.
The remaining runners for the Rebelettes and their times and placements for the day were Addy Hannaway, 40th, 30:33; Bella Paul Hartwig, 52nd, 35:12; and Audrey Everson, 53rd, 35:22.
The remaining runners for the Lady Hornets and their times and placements for the day were Jocy May, 30th, 28:17; Aysia Williams, 36th, 30:11; and Judah Hill, 39th, 30:32.
The Rebelettes placed third out of eight teams in the overall standings with a cumulative score of 97. The Lady Hornets weren’t too far behind with a team score of 127 to place sixth.
The top spot in the girls standings went to Coffee County with a total score of 60 for the day.
The cross country teams of FCHS and Huntland will next be in action on Saturday in a meet at Winchester City Park. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
