Week 6 Rutherford County high school football picks

It will be the state’s No. 2 and 3 teams on Friday night when Blackman travels to Oakland in a highly-anticipated showdown.

Both teams are coming off big region victories, and if you want to see a lot of future college talent, don’t miss this one. Just be sure to arrive or you’ll be out of luck as far as finding a season.

We are just halfway home through the regular season, but the Blaze-Patriots clash will likely decided the region champion and No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

Here are the picks:

Blackman at Oakland: There probably isn’t a school in the state with a more talented trio of playmakers than Blackman’s Trey Knox, Micaleous Elder and Odonis Otey. However, if there is a defense out there can somewhat contain the threesome, it’s the Patriots. This will likely be the first of two matchups this season as the two figure to be paired in the quarterfinals of the the playoffs. Nothing will definitively be settled, but it’s going to be a fun game to watch. Pick: Oakland 28, Blackman 21.

Centennial at Riverdale: It will be brother vs. brother as Riverdale’s Will Kriesky and Centennial’s Matt Kriesky face off for the second year in a row. Both teams are coming in at 2-3 and have certainly played quality opponents. Centennial is coming off a big win over Dickson County, while the Warriors were overwhelmed by Oakland in the “Battle of the ‘Boro” last week. Pick: Centennial 35, Riverdale 28.

Warren Co. at Siegel: The Stars are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, and Warren County shouldn’t offer much resistant this season. That being noted, it is certainly a must-win situation for Siegel if they have postseason plays. Pick: Siegel 49, Warren Co. 12.

Smyrna at Cane Ridge: If anyone can challenge Cane Region in the region, it’s likely the Bulldogs. However, Smyrna will need to be at full strength as quarterback Alex Bannister and tailback Blake Watkins sat out last week against Overton. Pick: Cane Ridge 42, Smyrna 28.

Stewarts Creek at Shelbyville: Stewarts Creek has shown great promise the last two weeks in competing with Brentwood and Cane Ridge. This will likely be a high-scoring game as Shelbyville features one of the top passing offenses in the state: Pick: Shelbyville 45, Stewarts Creek 41.

Whites Creek at La Vergne: The Wolverines hope to celebrate homecoming with a victory, and they’re facing an ideal opponent. Although both teams are 0-5 on the season, Whites Creek has scored just 24 points and has been shut out three times. Pick: La Vergne 33, Whites Creek 14.

Mt. Juliet Christian at MTCS: The Cougars are ranked No. 2 in the state and are 5-0. However, the competition will get much stiffer week and after week. Mt. Juliet won’t be a pushover as it 3-1 overall this season and 1-0 in region play. Pick: MTCS 30, Mt. Juliet Christian 22.

Moore Co. at Eagleville: The Eagles are looking for back-to-back wins, but will face a quality opponent in Moore County, which is 4-1 on the season. Eagleville (3-2) is coming off a tough 35-30 region victory at Community. Pick: Eagleville 28, Moore County 25.

Last Week: 7-0. Season: 32-6
