Lady Rebels Wrap Regular Season with Shutout Win, Secure Automatic State Bid

Posted

McKENZIE (October 8) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebel soccer team concluded the regular season Thursday with a shutout district win over Westview, 2-0. The team has also earned an automatic state tournament bid due to forfeitures by other teams. This is the fourth consecutive state appearance by the Lady Rebels.
The District 13A Tournament begins Tuesday, October 13. Top seed McKenzie was supposed to play South Fulton, who forfeited. Westview hosts Gibson County in the other semifinal contest.
The Lady Rebels play the winner of that game at home Tuesday, October 20 at 4:30 p.m. This will determine the District 13A and Region 7A champion because all District 14A schools canceled their seasons. All Region 8A teams have also canceled their seasons, therefore McKenzie and Westview/Gibson County will have no opponent in the Sectional round and advance automatically to the state tournament.

The 2020 TSSAA Class A State Girls’ Soccer Tournament is October 28-31 at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro.
In Thursday’s win, Allie Chappell and Savannah Nesbitt each scored a goal, and Maggie Aird and Haley Brasfield each had an assist.
Goalkeeper Gracie Dillingham had three saves to record her eighth shutout of the season.
The Lady Rebels are 9-2 overall with a 3-0 district record and haven’t allowed a goal in district play.
