  • Tuesday, November 24, 2020

The Whitwell wrestling team started off the 2020 wrestling season with a pair of home wins Tuesday, taking down Scottsboro, 39-27, and Farragut, 36-27, in new head coach Houston Clements’ debut.

Tiger captain and returning state medalist opened up his senior season with a pair of wins at 132 pounds. Also posting a perfect evening for Whitwell were Ethan Hobbs at 195, Mason Keel at 220 and Cooper Horton at 152.

Hobbs’ pin of Farragut’s Grant Jones sealed the Tigers’ second win of the night.

However, the match of the night was between Keel and Scottsboro’s Lucas Bellamy at 220 pounds. Keel spent over a minute on his back fighting off his opponent and used an escape in the final 20 seconds to nail the 10-9 win for the Tigers.
