Patriots hold on late to give Zach Dragoo his first win as coach

Clutch free throws late helped Arts & Sciences hold off Tellico Plains 55-52 in a non-district basketball game Tuesday. Justin Brown was impressive in the road victory leading all scorers with 18 points, including nine in the second quarter.

The Patriots let an 11-point halftime lead dwindle, but managed to hold on to give Zach Dragoo's first win since taking over for his father Mark as teh Patriots coach.

* Baylor 71, Walker Valley 46: Troy Boynton and Al Peciulis combined for 44 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers as the Red Raiders picked up their first win of the season at home. Baylor (1-1) scored 40 first half points during which Boynton scored 18 of his game-high 26 points to help beat a previously unbeaten Walker Valley (4-1) who was led by Spencer Jackson who had nine points and two 3s.

* Chattanooga Christian 58, Collegedale 37: Jackson Hilger led the Chargers at home with 24 points and connected on four long-range shots. Tink Scott - a star running back for the CCS football team - also supplied nine of his 11 points in the first half. Collegedale's Joby Nash scored 14 and hit three 3-pointers.

* Bradley Central 56, Meigs County 47: Brandon Shumbera made 5-of-12 3-pointers to finish with 17 points as the sharpshooter keyed Monday's road victory for the Bears who only turned the ball over six times.

* Sonoraville 57, Cartersville 52: Robeir Novak led the Phoenix to a win in their season opener, with Kam Callahan adding 13, including six in the final period.

* Heritage 76, Ridgeland 23: Cooper Terry scorched Ridgeland with 32 points, including 15 in the first quarter and eight 3-pointers, with Caden Snyder adding 19 points and Ty Loveless 12.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

* Sonoraville 70, Cartersville 33: Abby Chambers had five 3-pointers in leading the Lady Phoenix (1-1) with 20 points, with Alexa Geary adding 17.

* Heritage 78, Ridgeland 10: Elli Jost led four Lady Generals (2-2, 1-0 in Region 7-AAAA) in double figures with 17 points. Dayanna Perryman added 15, Brooke Matherly 13 and Lauren Mock 12 for the winners.

* LaFayette 44, North Murray 36: The Lady Ramblers won this Region 6-AAA opener in Chatsworth as LaTyah Barber scored seven of her game-high 21 points in the first period. Barber added 17 rebounds, four steals and five assists for the Lady Ramblers (1-0), with Mykeria Johnson adding nine points.

* Coahulla Creek 63, Ringgold 52: Katelyn Richards led the Lady Colts (3-0, 1-0 in 6-AAA) with 19 points, with Kenley Woods adding 12, including five in a game-turning 24-10 Coahulla Creek advantage in the third period. Rachel Lopez led Ringgold (1-1, 0-1) with 21 points.

* Trion 66, Pepperell, 27: From Monday, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-0 as Libby Brown and Chloe Murdock led 11 players in the scoring column with 12 and 11 points each, respectively.

* Hixson 43, Central 29: Senior Rickell Crutcher scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Wildcats to a comeback home victory after trailing 15-6 at the end of the first quarter. Hixson responded by not allowing a point in the second quarter.

* Sale Creek 56, Sequatchie County 47: Keilyn Morgan helped the Lady Panthers (3-2) jump ahead to a 45-30 advantage after three quarters. Morgan finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while post teammate Kayla Phillips had 11 points and 11 rebounds the home victory. Sequatchie County's Hallie Barger scored 11, while Ella Edgmon and Addy Edgmon each had 10.

* Bradley Central 54, Meigs County 39: The Bearettes (3-1) had 12 steals while Anna Muhonen (20 points, 5 rebounds) and Hannah Jones (13 points, 9 rebounds) put up big numbers in the paint. Meigs County's Jocelyn Stone 16 points and connected on a pair of 3-pointers with Jaci Powell who finished with 12 points.

BOWLING

* Walker Valley 18, McMinn County 9: Walker Valley's Jordan Taylor led all with a high series of 641, which included a 235 in game one. The Mustangs held a final advantage of 3,337-3,096 in total pinfall over McMinn County, who was led by Carson Gay (624).
