Prep basketball roundup: McKenna Hayes helps East Hamilton beat Signal Mountain

East Hamilton's girls' basketball team picked up a quality win at home Friday as scoring bursts in the first and third quarters proved pivotal in a 45-43 victory over Signal Mountain.

The Class AAA Lady Hurricanes (2-3) scored 16 points in the first and 17 in the third, and they did not allow more than a dozen points in any quarter against their Class A visitors.

Junior sharpshooter McKenna Hayes led the home team with 13 points and hit her third 3-pointer of the game in a tight fourth quarter.

East Hamilton was also lifted by Kayla Strickland (10 points), along with sisters Amya and Tristin Sutton, who each had nine points and combined to make all five free throws.

Signal Mountain's Jaylah Hardy scored a game-high 17 points, with eight in the second quarter and six in the fourth. Olivia Koontz added 11 points for the Lady Eagles, who are without Austin Peay signee Lamiah Walker as she recovers from a knee injury.

Notre Dame 54, Chattanooga Christian 37: Lady Fighting Irish guard Mary Fillauer was tough to stop as she poured in 20 points, all after the first quarter, with the junior making two 3-pointers and all four of her free throws in the home win. Kenzie Campbell got the scoring started for Notre Dame (2-3) with eight of her 13 points in the first quarter.

Chattanooga Christian was led by Maddy Zidan's eight points.

Boyd Buchanan 43, Grace Christian 29: Five players scored more than six points for the Lady Buccaneers (3-1), with Dani Reeves' nine points topping the list for the winners.

BOYS' BASKETBALL

Baylor 77, Eagle's Landing 55: Talented guard Eli Sparkman had a hot hand with four 3-pointers in a 26-point performance to lead the Red Raiders to the win against their visitors from the Atlanta area. Sparkman was 8-of-12 on free throws, and teammate Troy Boynton continued his stellar week by adding 25 points after scoring 26 in a win over Walker Valley. Boynton scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to help close out Friday's victory.
