Tellico Plains will be donning their helmets and batting gloves soon in hopes of a 2021 Bears baseball schedule.
Last year, Tellico Plains got one game of the year in before issues relating to the COVID-19 pandemic pressured the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) into canceling Spring 2020 sports.
However, the completion of an entire football and fall sports season as well as the continuation of high school basketball and wrestling shine a hopeful gleam of light on to diamonds across the state.
It is unsure how America's Pasttime will look in the spring of 2021, but Tellico Plains has geared up a slate of 27 games across three months.
The Bears' regular season starts with two five inning contests against Coalfield on March 13. Tellico Plains will then carry that into a Polk County game at home on March 15.
The Bears have their first intercounty clash on March 16 when they visit Sweetwater. A road game with Howard on March 18 is sandwiched in between the Wildcats game and the second intercounty matchup of the year. Tellico Plains hosts Sequoyah on March 19. The Bears continue a three game homestead the next day with an afternoon contest against Coalfield.
Tellico Plains closes out their homestead with their first District 4-A game of the season — a 5 p.m. contest with Lookout Valley on March 22. The Bears return to the road after that and travel to the Yellowjackets for a league clash on March 23. The Bears return home on March 25 to host Midway before traveling to Fulton for a doubleheader on March 26, their final outing of the month.
April 1 is when Tellico Plains will return the favor to Midway with a visit to the Green Wave, followed up by traveling to Wartburg Central a day later. The Bears return home to host McMinn Central for a double header on April 3 before getting the fourth off.
The Bears come back into action on April 5 with a home league game with Sale Creek. The Bears travel to the Panthers for the return game on April 6. Tellico Plains hosts Wartburg Central on April 8.
Sweetwater visits the Bears on April 9 for their second matchup of the year. After two days off, Tellico Plains returns to district play on April 12 and 13 for home and away games with Copper Basin. The Bears travel out of state on April 15 to take on Towns County, Georgia.
Chattanooga School of Arts and Sciences (CSAS) visits Tellico Plains on April 19 before the Bears travel to Hamilton County on April 20 for their final regular season district game.
The Bears host Howard on April 22 then travel to Coalfield for a high-noon double header on the 24th. The Bears start their final stretch with a visit to Sequoyah on April 27 and travel to Polk County on April 30 — their final outing of April. The Bears close out their regular season on May 3 when they host the Greenback Cherokees.
District 4-A starts its postseason on May 5 and 6 with play-in-games before the official District 4-A Tournament starts and runs from May 7-10. The District 4-A Championship is scheduled for May 11.
The TSSAA is yet to release guidelines and rulings for the 2021 Spring seasons, but as cases rise, and the TSSAA gets stricter regarding basketball, it only seems a matter of time until announcements come out. Visit advocateanddemocrat.com and follow @NoahHouckMCA on Twitter for updates.
