Prep roundup: Tim Vaughn propels Notre Dame past CSAS

Notre Dame junior Tim Vaughn is a force on the court in numerous ways.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pounder had an attack-first mentality as he scored 20 points and had three dunks in Tuesday's 54-33 home victory over Arts & Sciences.

Vaughn scored the game's first basket off a dificult floater from the right baseline and flew down the court at the start of the second quarter for an emphatic one-handed slam dunk. He also showed off his spin move for another bucket before being subbed out of the game with over six minutes left in the fourth quarter.

"Tim is so talented of a player and can impact the game in a lot of ways for us," Notre Dame coach Jonathan Adams said after his team improve to 10-4 overall. "He is such a good player and works so hard. Tonight I told him to take what the game gives you. He was able to get to the rim and get out in transition."

The Fighting Irish played solid man-to-man defense and came away with numerous deflections and strips to jump start the attack. DJ Brown had nine points for Notre Dame, while senior Wesley Jones stood out with five assists.

A young CSAS team (4-2) - which is in its first season under the leadership of Zach Dragoo - was led by sophomore Louis Bell who had 10 points.

Tyner 74, Central 37: Senior Amarion Dillard scored all of his game-high 24 points through the first three quarters for the Rams (6-1, 6-0 6-AA). Central's Donovin Taylor finished with 19 points and made all nine of his free throws.

Baylor 47, Marist 43: The Red Raiders once again provided a stout showing defensively to improve to 7-1 on the season. Cameron Sparks and Troy Boynton led Baylor with 13 points each.

Signal Mountain 48, Brainerd 47: Signal Mountain's Andrew Matukewicz (14 points) and Braeden Wolford (13 points) led the way to an impressive District 6-AA home victory over Brainerd, which was led by Deaunte Crawford's 11 points.

Boyd Buchanan 81, Collegedale 51: The Bucaneers (10-4, 5-0 DII East 2A) received 20 points from sophomore forward Jacob Shockley, while Ryan Lopez and Caden Johnson each hit a trio of 3s and scored 13 points. Ace Bailey and Karson Gay combined for 14 rebounds and nine assists in the win. Jonah Madrigal led Collegedale with 17 points.

Walker Valley 69, Ooltewah 63: The Mustangs fought back from a 46-42 deficit at the start of the fourth quarter. Senior Hayden Moore had 21 points and Seth Sausville added 20 for Walker Valley. Ooltewah's Deleon Petty led all scorers with 27 points including four 3-pointers.

CCS 49, Red Bank 48: The Chargers received a 17-point effort from Parker Graham, while Nic Eng and Tink Scott also stepped up offensively in the tight victory. Red Bank's Cam Bell scored eight of his 14 points in the first quarter.

Soddy-Daisy 68, Sale Creek 49: Will Ackerman led all with 16 points for the Trojans, who also received 13 points apiece from Bryson Reid and Logan Ricketts to improve to 5-5 overall. Korbyn Brown and Braden Penny had 14 each for Sale Creek.

Calhoun 69, Cass 62: Dylan Faulkner had 28 points, Peyton Law 15 and Christopher Lewis 10 to lead the Yellow Jackets (7-8, 2-2) to the Region 7-AAAAA win.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

Boyd Buchanan 59, Collegedale 37: Addie Stone scored a game-high 13 points for the Lady Bucs (8-5, 4-1 DII East 2A). Jalisa Sanders and Dani Reeves were stellar combining for 23 points, 10 steals and eight assists.

Bradley Central 85, East Hamilton 21: The No. 1 Bearettes (12-1, 4-0 5-AAA) had five different players hit at least two 3-pointers, while they had a season-high 26 assists. Ashlan Crittenden and Jamia Williams combined for 14 assists to just one turnover. Hannah Jones led the way with 21 points and was 9-of-10 from the field.

Signal Mountain 64, Brainerd 46: The Lady Eagles stepped up as Jaylah Hardy (18 points), Janie Kennedy (14 points, 6-6 FT), Carlee Lowry (12 points) and Harmony McCarter (10 points) led the way to victory. Brainerd's Raijeria Bell scored 22 points, while Arteya Scott had 15.

Hixson 36, Howard 35: Bre Collier finished with six of her 13 points in the fourth quarter to close a win for the Lady Wildcats. Hixson received 10 points from Anna Johnston and 16 rebounds from Zoie Sullivan.

Notre Dame 49, Arts & Sciences 27: Junior guard Kenzie Campbell scored 23 of her 25 points through the first three quarters and had seven steals to lead the Lady Fighting Irish.

Sale Creek 41, Soddy-Daisy 37: Lillie Morgan hit the game-winning free throws with 11 seconds left, while Keilyn Morgan (10 rebounds, six blocks) and Kayla Phillips (12 points, seven rebounds) were strong as well for Sale Creek.

Marion County 43, Bledsoe County 26: Lorence Bradford (17 points) and a strong defensive effort led the way to victory for the Lady Warriors, who improved to 9-3 overall.

LaFayette 60, Ringgold 54: Latyah Barber and Mykeria Johnson had 23 and 21 points, respectively, to lead the Lady Ramblers (7-5, 4-5) to the Region 6-AAA win. Riley Nayadley topped Ringgold (10-5, 5-4) with 26 points, with Maggie Reed and Baleigh Pitts adding 10 each.

WRESTLING

Walker Valley 42, East Hamilton 39: The Mustangs received pins from Joshua Bramlett (120), Garrison McCann (145), Heath Tanksley (182) and Jacob Anderson (220) along with three forfeits for a close victory. East Hamilton's first-ranked Jason Brumlow (195) won a tough match with a third round pin against Kallum Lowe. The Hurricanes also had pins from Brady Long (106), Nathan Hollingsworth (126), Maclain Otting (160) and Tex Lewis (170) while Aaron Waller (113) won a 7-5 decision.
