Former Houston star Alden Applewhite commits to Mississippi State basketball

Alden Applewhite, who played at Houston and Lausanne before transferring to AZ Compass Prep School in Arizona, has committed to Mississippi State, he announced Friday on Twitter. 

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound senior forward is the No. 6 prospect in Arizona for the Class of 2021, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. His other offers include TCU, Texas A&M and Ole Miss. 

He's the younger brother of Dre Applewhite, who signed with Mississippi State and transferred to Toledo after his redshirt freshman season.

Alden Applewhite led Houston to its first state tournament appearance last year, but the tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19. He was the District 15-AAA regular season and tournament MVP. He averaged 15.5 points and 4.7 rebounds.
