Nashville area high school boys basketball top 10 rankings: MBA, Goodpasture win state titles

Here’s a look at the top 10 Nashville-area boys high school basketball teams, as ranked by The Tennessean.

1. MBA (16-2) –Will Montana averaged 18.5 points last week including a 25-point night in the Big Red's 72-51 win over Brentwood Academy in the TSSAA's Division II state championship game. Ranked No. 2.

2. Siegel (26-4) – Matthew Schneider averaged 20.3 points in three wins as the Stars won the Region 4-AAA championship. Last week: Ranked No. 3.

3. Brentwood Academy (20-4) – The Eagles hit 68% of their shots against Christian Brothers in the Dll-AA semifinals, but could not replicate that performance in the championship. Last week: Ranked No. 2.

4. Goodpasture (28-1) – PJay Smith scored 25 points in the Cougars' semifinal win over ECS and recorded a double-double (10 points, 11 assists) in their 60-50 win over CPA in the Dll-A championship game. Last week: Ranked No. 5.

5. Cane Ridge (12-0) – Brandon Miller scored 33 points in a blowout win over Ravenwood and 22 in the Ravens' Region 6-AAA championship win over Franklin. Last week: No. 7.

6. Franklin (28-3) – Reed Kemp averaged 20.5 points in a win over Brentwood and a 75-71 loss to Cane Ride in the 6-AAA championship. Last week: Ranked No. 4.

7. CPA (27-5) – Braden Zapp led the Lions with 21 points in their Dll-A semifinals win over Tipton-Rosemark and finished his career with a 19-point game against Goodpasture. Last week: Ranked No. 6.

8. Blackman (19-5) – The Blaze picked up a pair of wins over Columbia and Coffee County early in the week before losing 45-36 to Siegel in the Region 4-AAA championship. Last week: Not Ranked.

9. Upperman (24-5) – The Bees began the week with a 10-point over Livingston Academy by lost 30-28 to the York Institute in the Region 4-AA championship. Last week: Ranked No. 9.

10. Clay County (26-2) –Grant Strong averaged 29 points in wins over Van Buren County and Pickett County. Last week: Not ranked.
