Clay County 59, Peabody 38: Lady Bulldogs jump out early to beat Peabody in quarterfinals

MURFREESBORO — Clay County scored 13 of the first 16 points of the game to jump out to an early lead, and the Lady Bulldogs never let up.

The Lady Bulldogs beat Peabody 59-38 in the Class A girls basketball state quarterfinals on Wednesday at the Murphy Center.

Clay County (21-10) advances to play Loretto on Friday at 10 a.m. in the semifinals.

Clay County was led by senior Katie Arms with 27 points, while sophomore Briley Burchett added 24 points

Clay County shot 46.2% (12-of-26) from the field in the first half to jump out to a 30-17 lead.

After falling behind 16-3 early, Peabody (26-8) cut the Lady Bulldogs' lead to nine three times in the second quarter, but the Lady Tide couldn't get any closer.

Peabody was led by KK Norman with eight points. The Lady Tide shot 23.2% from the field.
