Tuesday's high school roundup: Oak Hall girls tennis team makes claim on city championship

JONESVILLE — With a 7-0 sweep of district rival P.K. Yonge on Tuesday, Oak Hall remains unbeaten at 6-0, including wins over Buchholz, Eastside and Gainesville High to claim the city title.

Adele Acs and Kate Pickens gave Oak Hall a strong start, winning 8-2 and 8-0 in the No. 1 and 3 singles matchups. Molly Thelosen and Amelia German each also won their singles matchups at the 4 and 5, while Ella Moser battled to an 8-8 match break before closing out a win in the No. 2 singles spot.

Allison Bizub-Nour Oweiss used attacking serves and stellar net play to win the No. 1 doubles matchup 8-2, while Josie Pickens-Taylor Hevesy finished off the sweep of the Blue Wave with an 8-4 win in the No. 2 doubles match.

The Eagles will host Ocala Trinity Catholic on March 30.

BASEBALL

Union County 4, Fort White 2: At Lake Butler, senior Braxton Dukes (3-0) tossed a complete game allowing four hits with five strikeouts, junior second baseman Jake O’Steen had a hit and two steals, senior third baseman Tripp Davis went 1-for-3 with an RBI and senior first baseman Whip Davis had a double and an RBI for the Tigers (10-0). Union will play at Bradford on Thursday.

Branford 14, Lafayette 8: Dawson Mock (3-3, 4 runs scored, 2 walks), Jackson Ward (2-5, 3 RBI, 1 run scored), Blake Adams (2-2, 2 RBI, run scored, 2 walks) and Max Byrd (2 -3, 2 runs scored,1 walk) produced at the plate for the Hornets (4-4), who play Thursday night at Hamilton County.

Scores: Trinity Catholic 14, Gainesville 13 at Lake Weir Spring Break Classic; No. 5 in Class 5A Santa Fe 10, No. 1-4A Suwannee 7 (Dalton Dampier 2-for-4 with three RBI for 8-1 Raiders, Game 2 at 7 p.m. today in Alachua); Columbia 6, Buchholz 5 (Bobcats fall to 5-3-1, Tigers are 7-3, rematch at 7 p.m. today at Buchholz).
