Arcentae Broome is changing schools, but still coaching in Nashville.

Broome was named the new John Overton football coach, replacing Cole Peeples, who resigned after two seasons. The Bobcats went 2-14 over the past two years, including 1-5 in 2020 during a shortened season that was delayed at the start due to COVID-19 concerns.

Overton went 2-11 against Region 5-6A opponents during Peebles' tenure. Both victories were against Antioch.

Broome has been at Maplewood, which went 0-7 this past season, but reached the Class 4A state semifinals in 2018.

JOB OPENING:Tyler Turner resigns as Goodpasture football coach after one season

Broome is a 1993 Stratford graduate.

Broome's hiring opens a coaching position at Maplewood. Hunters Lane is in search of a new football coach after Preston Scott's resignation. Interviews for that position were expected to be held this week.

Also in Nashville, Goodpasture's football position opened with the resignation of Tyler Turner, who resigned to go to Jackson Prep in Mississippi.

"Coach Broome has a long and successful history in Metro Schools and is a respected leader throughout the Mid-TN region," wrote Overton principal Jill Pittman in a release. "Coach Broome joins a stable and dedicated coaching staff at Overton and will join the Bobcat faculty for the 2021-22 school year and beyond.

"He will kick off the spring training season immediately."
