Lady Pats bomb Knights twice

Big offense and shutdown pitching carried the Henry County High School softball team to a doubleheader sweep over District 10-AAA rival Kenwood on Monday at HCHS. The Lady Patriots clubbed their way to 17-0 and 21-0 victories. Lady Patriot pitchers allowed a total of two hits on the day. Henry County improved to 14-7 on the season and 6-3 in district games. The Lady Patriots entertained Montgomery Central in another district battle on Tuesday. LADY PATRIOTS 17, KNIGHTS 0 Henry County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before erupting for 14 runs in the second inning to win the three-inning contest that was stopped on the mercy rule. The Lady Patriots’ offense got three hits from Avery Cox, who hit a double and drove in five runs. Mary Raye Smith added three hits, including a double. She knocked in three runs and also scored three times. Emma Thompson slugged a pair of doubles while driving home two runs. Shelby Summers hit a double and Abby Gilstrap had two hits. Summers pitched three innings in the shutout, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. LADY PATRIOTS 21, KNIGHTS 0 Kenwood never had a chance in the second game of the twinbill as Henry County plated 10 runs in the first inning. The Lady Patriots added nine in the second frame and scored twice in the third inning. Noe Wilkerson led Henry County with three hits while Summers added two hits, including a triple, and three runs batted in. Pearl Davis had two hits, walked twice and recorded five RBIs. Cox chipped in two hits, including a double. She knocked in two runs. Kara Parker had two hits and three RBIs while Ivy Plumley added two hits. Davis pitched three innings, allowing one hit and walking one. She had seven strikeouts.
