Former Grace Christian Academy girls basketball coach Hannah Jones has been named the new coach at Middle Tennessee Christian.

She replaces Hillary Hodges, who resigned in April after two seasons.

"I'm extremely excited and grateful to be a part of the MTCS family," Jones said. "From spiritual life to academics to athletics, the MTCS leadership demonstrated a passion for doing things the right way and investing in their students' hearts. It's more than basketball, it's bigger than Xs & Os, and MTCS gets that. I can't wait to get to work."

Jones, a 2009 Brentwood High graduate, most recently was an assistant coach at Lipscomb University, where she played from 2009-13 and scored more than 1,000 points.

"We are blessed to have Hannah and her husband Adam joining our Cougar family," MTCS athletic director Jason Piercey said. "The experience Coach Jones brings from coaching the collegiate game will not only push our team to continued success but will also prepare many of our current and future players to achieve their goals of playing at the next level."

Jones spent two years as coach at Grace Christian (2015-17), going 8-41.

Prior to that she spent two years (2013-15) as an assistant at Brentwood Academy.

Hodges took the Lady Cougars to the region tournament both of her seasons. The 2020-21 team finished 16-7 and had wins over both Division II-A state champion Webb School and runner-up Providence Christian.

She served as a non-faculty assistant for a season prior to taking over.

MTCS is set to return four starters as well as two highly touted transfers that sat out the season due to TSSAA eligibility rules.

RIVERDALE:Riverdale hires Ayers duo to take over girls basketball program

Jones is the third girls basketball coaching hire this week in the area, joining Joel and Ashley Ayers at Riverdale and Shane Young at Siegel.

MTCS also changed boys coaches during the past month, hiring Aaron Morrison to take over for Piercey, who resigned in March to devote all of his time to being the school's athletic director.
