Clarksville Academy football coach John Crosby has resigned and will be moving to the Murfreesboro area, according to a school news release.

Crosby spent the past four years at Clarksville Academy and the past two as the head coach. The Cougars didn't win a game in 2020 on the field. Their only win came from a COVID-19 forfeit from Fayette Academy Sept. 4.

Clarksville Academy's final two games of the season were canceled when the program had players test positive within three weeks of each other.

In two seasons, Crosby's teams won three games.

JOHN CROSBY:Becoming Cougars' football coach almost never happened

"I love CA and want nothing but the best for the program," Crosby said. "This group of players are some of the most dedicated I’ve seen, and it has been a pleasure to work with them."

Crosby took over the program from J.D. Sellers who left to accept an assistant coaching job near his home in Appling County, Georgia.

Crosby previously coached at Nashville Christian where he was hired after graduating from Tennessee in 2006. He served as Nashville Christian's defensive coordinator where he helped it capture a Class A state title in 2015.

"His determination to overcome the obstacles he met the last two years as head coach is a testament to his coaching ability," Clarksville Academy athletics director Jake Peterson said. "Losing over half your practice time and most of your season isn’t easy, but John handled it well. We wish John and his family all the best in their move.”

Crosby is the second football coach in Montgomery County to resign after the 2020 season. Northwest's Neil Furnish left after two years. The Vikings hired defensive coordinator Reynaldo Peña on April 13.
