CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A quartet of Clarksville High School football players actualized their dreams of playing college football on Monday, May 17.

Nekoda Clark, Kyelar Edwards, Nick Edwards and Kyler Smith all signed their national letter of intent at Clarksville High School. The Wildcats finished the 2020 season 5-6 and reached the second round of the TSSAA Class 5A football playoffs.

Clark, a wide receiver and cornerback with the Wildcats, will play at Birmingham Southern College this fall. He joins former CHS offensive lineman Brandon Armstrong on the Panthers’ roster. BSC is an NCAA Division III affiliate of the Southern Athletic Association.

Tight end Kyelar Edwards signed his letter of intent to play at Maryville College. The Scots, also a Division III member, finished 2-2 in an abbreviated 2020-21 season.

Smith primarily served as Clarksville’s long snapper this season and takes his talents to Brevard College in North Carolina. The Tornados finished the spring 4-1 and share the same athletic conference as Maryville.

After undergoing surgery on his ACL in February, Region 5-7A Lineman of the Year Nick Edwards officially committed to play at the University of Tennessee. Edwards finished the 2020 season with 37 knockdown blocks and announced his commitment to the Volunteers in early April. He will join the roster as a preferred walk-on.

“Right now my main goal is to just get back to where I was and just go from there,” Edwards told Clarksville Now. “I’d love to get the opportunity to become a starter on Saturdays at Rocky Top which I think everyone that goes there has that dream. I know in the position that I’m in it’s going to take a lot of work, but I wouldn’t be going there if I was scared of it.”
