What to know after Day 2 of the TSSAA boys soccer state tournament at Spring Fling

MURFREESBORO — Day 2 of the TSSAA state soccer tournament was full of huge games as teams advanced closer to state championship matchups.

Here is what to know about Wednesday's tournament play.

Best game

Grace Christian Academy of Franklin vs. Boyd Buchanan. GCA trailed 2-0 early in the second half before rallying during an 18-minute span to score a pair of goals to tie it by the end of regulation. Samuel Barrionuevo's goal in the second overtime proved the difference as the ball sliced under the hands of the Boyd Buchanan goalkeeper to advance GCA to Thursday's Division II-A state championship game against Knoxville Webb.

Biggest upset

Page's huge win. Greeneville won the previous three Class AA state championships but there won't be a fourth straight. Page's Nolan Colladay scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute but kept pressure on Greeneville's defense. The Patriots had 31 shots on goal and 11 corner kicks.

Biggest moment

Cheikhna Sadibou-Seck. Austin-East's striker was carted off the field with a leg injury midway through the second half but returned to score the winning goal in the 71st minute as the Roadrunners advance to Friday's Class A state title game against Gatlinburg-Pittman.

Star of the day

Jaiden Keifer, Farther Ryan. The Fighting Irish goalie came into the game in the 70th minute and held Baylor scoreless in the final 10 minutes of regulation and both overtime periods. He stopped two goals during penalty kicks to help Father Ryan secure the semifinal win. Father Ryan moves on to face Christian Brothers at 4 p.m. Thursday for the Division II-AA title.

Thursday

Grace Christian Academy vs. Knoxville Webb, 6:30 p.m. The two teams have a combined record of 39-1-1 and Knoxville Webb hasn't lost this season. The Spartans gave up an early goal in its semifinal game to CPA but scored five straight to put the game away.

Class A

Friday

Austin-East vs. Gatlinburg-Pittman, 11 a.m. This is an All-District 2 state championship game with familiar opponents facing off for a state crown. Austin-East has won two of three against Gatlinburg-Pittman this season.

Class AAA

Friday

Houston vs. Bearden, 1:30 p.m. Houston and Bearden have won a combined 11 state championships since 1993. This is the first time the two teams have met for a state title since 2001 when Bearden won 1-0. Bearden won the 2019 state title while Houston's last state title was 2015.
