First team

The first six athletes on The Tennessean All-Midstate boys soccer team are nominees for the boys soccer player of the year. The winner will be announced on June 28 at the sixth annual Middle Tennessee High School Sports Awards presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans.

Riley Clothier

Oakland, Sr.

Position: Defender

Why chosen: An attacking center back, Clothier was a stalwart on defense while also scoring 10 goals with four assists.

Jack Gorman

Page, Jr.

Position: Goalkeeper

Why chosen: Gorman led the Patriots to the Class AA championship game, making 69 saves while only allowing 12 goals.

Malachi Jones

GCA, Jr.

Position: Midfielder

Why chosen: Before breaking his foot in the DII-A quarterfinals, Jones scored 45 goals, with 16 assists and 11 hat tricks.

Patrick Lee

CPA, Jr.

Position: Forward

Why chosen: An all-district and all-region selection, Lee led the Lions to the DII-A semifinals scoring 34 goals with 21 assists.

Cade MacLean

Station Camp, Sr.

Position: Midfielder

Why chosen: MacLean manned the Bison midfield with a team-high 25 goals and 12 assists. 

Harrison Watts 

Clarksville, Sr.

Position: Forward

Why chosen: Watts scored 32 goals while also leading the team with 29 assists.

Ben Singer

DCA, Sr.

Position: Forward

Why chosen: Singer scored in every game, finishing with 27 goals and 18 assists and four hat tricks. 

Victor Ramirez

Columbia, Jr.

Position: Midfielder

Why chosen: Ramirez helped lead the Lions back to the state tournament with a team-high 26 goals and 16 assists.

Mason Gianakos

East Hickman, Sr.

Position: Midfielder

Why chosen: Gianakos had 34 goals, four assists and seven hat tricks and set a school record with eight goals in one game.

Jorge Graniel

Central Magnet, Sr.

Position: Midfielder

Why chosen: Graniel scored 24 goals along with 19 assists leading the Tigers back to the state tournament. 

Sam Pomeroy

Hendersonville, Sr.

Position: Defender

Why chosen: Pomeroy was the District 10-AAA MVP as a center back who also scored five goals and had three assists.

Coach of the year

Jeff Porter, Oakland

Porter led the Patriots to their best season in school history as they finished 19-1-3 and made it to the Class AAA semifinals where they took eventual champion Houston to penalty kicks.
