The list of swimmers who earned All-American High School honors was recently released and McCallie once again added to its impressive number of student-athletes to earn that recognition.
In the past three seasons the Blue Tornado has had 20 swimmers attain this honor. This past season saw them add seven more to the honor roll of All-Americans.
Among those honored were rising senior Sam Powe, who was ranked second in the country in the 100-yard backstroke. Powe was also the inaugural winner of the Male Swimmer of the Year in the Tennessee High School Sports Awards. He is the highest nationally ranked swimmer in McCallie’s history,
Powe set the Tennessee state record in the backstroke with a time of 17.17 and also won a state championship in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.03, as well as being a member of the Tornado’s state champion 200-yard medley relay team.
Other members of that relay team, ranked 10th in the nation, were Will Hanger, Colby Maupin and Conor Kinley. The four set a time of 1:30.78.
McCallie’s 400-yard freestyle relay team was also recognized as All-Americans. Members of that team were Powe, Kinley Maupin and Strib Stribling. Nationally this foursome was ranked 52nd with a time of 3:06.19.
