Buster Kelso, the winningest high school baseball coach in Tennessee history, has been fired from his coaching position, according to a statement from Christian Brothers High School.

Kelso will continue to teach accounting at the school.

“We thank Coach Kelso for his longstanding dedication to the program for the past 36 years," CBHS athletic director Mike Kelly said. "His love of the sport and impact on the local baseball community are arguably unmatched,”

Assistant coach Jason Motte, who pitched in the major leagues for nearly a decade with stops in St. Louis, Chicago, Colorado and Atlanta, will be the interim coach while the school searches for Kelso's replacement.

In a career spanning nearly four decades, Kelso led the Purple Wave to nine state titles. Christian Brothers won back-to-back in 2000-01 and 2015-16. Kelso has 1,109 career wins.

Christian Brothers went 22-16 last season and finished 3-4 in league play.
