Westmoreland has loads of confidence as they head into their 2021 season opener at Portland on August 20.

The Eagles are an experienced group this season, boasting a 60-man roster including 31 upperclassmen.

This season, the goals are simple for the Eagles, making the playoffs and securing a home playoff game, but the task is easier said than done.

In their region of 2A, Trousdale County and Watertown have dominated, but Westmoreland feels they are closing the gap.

“I am very pleased with what we have accomplished with our young men so far this preseason,” Westmoreland head coach Chad Perry said. In the last year or so, I feel like we have become more competitive with those teams, particularly Trousdale County. Year after year, we know them and Watertown are the two front runners, so we will focus on knocking one of those teams off this season.”

With reclassification taking place across the state this season, Westmoreland will welcome two new foes to their region in Whites Creek and Harpeth while staying with the Yellow Jackets and Purple Tigers.

Offense

Junior quarterback Kamyrn Eden will step into the signal caller role for the Eagles this season, replacing three year starter Ryker Hodge.

“We are very optimistic regarding our offense, they have excellent chemistry together, and we hope that transfers to the field,” Perry said.

This season, leading the offense outside of Eden will be seniors Anthony Leath, Troy Gass, Kody Lance, Ayden Satterfield, Moah Morris, William DeLeousomme, and Riley Mizrahi.

Leath, Lance, and DeLeousomme will all work as receivers for the Eagles this season as Leath brings back the most experience from last season.

Satterfield will work as the team’s fullback this season.

This season, Mizrahi will return as the team’s top tailback, with Eli Stafford as the talented backfield to set records for the Eagles.

Senior Dalton Cook, Nate Sullivan, RJ Nichols, Landon Cook, and Elijah Bathe will protect Eden and the running backs in the trenches.

“We will lean our offensive line this season — they will be our core,” Perry said of his four returning starters from last season.

Defense

The defensive line will look much like the offensive line for Westmoreland this season. For those who do not earn playing time on the offensive side of the ball, look for them to start on the defensive front. Added with RJ Nichols, Landon Cook, Dawson Boarders, Nate Sullivan, Clayton Choquet is Troy Gass, Ayden Satterfield, Braden Graves, and Peyton Dickens.

At the second level, linebackers Nick Gray, Riley Mizrahi, and Bryce Kittrell.

You will see a healthy mix of Beasley, Eden, Gregory, and Stafford in the secondary.

“With seven returning starters on that side of the ball, we expect a lot from our defense this fall,” Perry said. “They have jelled nicely since the start of spring ball.”

Special Teams

Troy Gass will handle the team’s punting this season. A true weapon, Gass averages over 40 yards per punt.

According to the official roster, Westmoreland does not have a kicker or long snapper listed but will likely roll out one of their best athletes to handle the duties.

Predicted Regular Season: 7-3

Predicted Playoff Finish: Second Round
