Maurice Miller is no longer boys basketball coach at Arlington High School, the school told The Commercial Appeal on Tuesday.

"Coach Miller voluntarily stepped down from his coaching position to pursue other opportunities. We wish him luck in his future coaching endeavors," Arlington spokesperson Tyler Hill wrote in an email.

Arlington has named Blaine Brewer interim head coach. Brewer most recently served as assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach.

Miller could not be reached for comment.

The Tigers were 45-13 in two seasons under Miller, including 19-6 last year. Arlington's season ended in the Class AAA sectionals both years.

Miller played more than one hundred games as a point guard at Georgia Tech from 2008-11, averaging 5.9 points and 3.0 assists. He later played professionally overseas before embarking on his high school coaching career.

Miller coached at his alma mater, Raleigh-Egypt, for four seasons. He led the Pharaohs to the Class AA quarterfinals the year before he left.

The 6-foot-2 guard won the 2007 Class AAA Mr. Basketball award and led the Pharaohs to a state runner-up finish as a sophomore.

He was the No. 2 prospect in Tennessee, No. 13 point guard in the country and No. 75 overall prospect in the nation coming out of high school, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Miller's jersey was retired by Raleigh-Egypt in 2019.
