Shelbyville Central’s Golden Eagle turned in their most productive offense performance of the season the defense continued to shine as well in a 47-14 in a non-region matchup on Friday night at the Eagles Nest for Homecoming.

The Eagle offense racked up just under 400 yards of total offense, 233 rushing and 161 passing yards.

Senior quarterback Kade Cunningham led the way, throwing for three touchdowns and running for two more.

“It’s nice to finally get the offense going. I thought we threw the ball well early on. We did some good things in our run game as well,” Shelbyville Central coach Josh Puckett said.

Shelbyville Central struck first when senior Kendall Trice hauled in a 45-yard touchdown pass from Cunningham. The conversion attempt failed leaving the score at 6-0.

Laquan Young found the end zone on a six-yard run to make the score 12-0 before Kenwood scored late in the opening frame off a 24 yard pass from Jaylen Washington to Corben Howard.

The kick after made the score 12-7.

Shelbyville Central took control of the game from that point, scoring 21 points in the second quarter to go up 33-7 by halftime.

Cam Grogan and Trice each caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Cunningham to go along with a three-yard TD run by the signal caller.

Kenwood’s lone score in the second half was an 86-yard kickoff return by Howard.

Cunningham added another TD run then Rayduan Crenshaw capped off the scoring for the winners with a  26-yard run in the fourth quarter.

The Eagle defense only allowed 126 yards of total offense.

“We are working to be an explosive offense and we made some explosive passes tonight,” Puckett said. “Our defense really did a good job again and I’m really proud of their effort.”

The Eagles (2-3, 1-0) face Region 3-6A opponent Lebanon on Friday night in a key matchup on the road at 7.
