More than $1,200 has been stolen over the past two weeks from an office in The Webb School’s athletic complex, a Bedford County Sheriff’s Office report said.
The money, totaling $1,280, was taken from a locked area in head football coach Kyle Turnbow’s office between Oct. 7 and Monday. The key used to unlock the area was replaced nearby but not in its usual location, a deputy was told.
Turnbow said the money is used to purchase post-game meals for his Webb Feet team.
Inmate attacks jail
An inmate who punched a sprinkler head at Bedford County Jail — setting off the fire alarm system and causing water to pour from the ceiling — allegedly got some laughs from his actions.
It was no joking matter for jail personnel, who charged Nathaniel Brown with vandalism.
“He was cussing, screaming, kicking the door, punching everything in the cell,” Deputy Jeremy Chapman’s report said. Brown was locked in a cell in the booking area early Monday night when he broke the sprinkler head in cell C305, according to the report.
Brown stated while being placed in a restraining chair that he thought breaking the sprinkler was funny, Chapman said.
The deputy said Brown’s fist was noticeably swollen.
Shelbyville firefighters responded to the alarm.
Drug charges
Moments after purchasing a Planet Fitness membership, the buyer only worked out a short time and spent a while shooting up methamphetamine in a locker room early Monday, Shelbyville police said.
Nicholas John Delaheran, 32, of Wartrace Pike allegedly entered the gym around 10:20 p.m. Sunday and was still there at 4:30 a.m. Monday. A gym employee notified police.
Officer Sam Campbell found a syringe in a shower Delaheran admitted using to shoot meth, the police report said.
A search allegedly revealed a small amount of meth in Delaharan’s clothing.
Delaharan was charged with possession of a schedule II drug and paraphernalia and posted $3,500 bond.
A man arrested for driving on a revoked license was charged with carrying marijuana into Bedford County Jail Monday night, according to Shelbyville police.
•Charles Jackson Demp-sey, 29, of Center Street in Normandy allegedly turned in front of Officer Tracy Teal on North Cannon Boulevard. Teal smelled marijuana during the traffic stop and said Dempsey repeatedly denied its presence.
The vehicle’s license sticker had expired in April and a portion of a 2022 sticker from another vehicle taped over it, Teal said.
A search by jail personnel revealed marijuana hidden in Dempsey’s clothing.
Dempsey was charged with having an altered license tag, failure to yield, driving on a revoked license, financial responsibility, introducing a drug into a penal institution and possession of a schedule VI drug. He was held on $12,500 bond.
Vehicles stolen
•A red and silver Chevrolet three-quarter ton pickup was stolen from outside a Calhoun Street home overnight Sunday, Shelbyville police were told.
The regular cab, long bed truck had been left unlocked with keys inside, according to the report.
•A car stolen from a Deer Point Road home between 10:45 p.m. Monday-3:30 a.m. Tuesday from a Deer Point Road home was found at the chicken barns at Pinkston and Midland Roads around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. A Social Security belonging to someone other than the owner was inside, a BCSO report said.
Thefts
•A utility trailer containing three lawn mowers was stolen off a truck left temporarily in the driveway of a Virgil Crowell Road home between 6-10:30 a.m.
•A stereo system, amplifier and subwoofer, toolbox and tools, fog lights, trailer hitch and American flag Donald Trump wallet were stolen from a vehicle early Saturday at the Walmart parking lot.
