Oak Ridge defensive coordinator Jeff Miner was named  the new football coach of Hardin Valley football.

Mike Potter, who was the coach for three seasons, announced his resignation Nov. 1. The Hawks went 1-9 this season and 0-5 in Region 2-6A, missing out on the playoffs for the third year in a row.

Hardin Valley will be Miner's first head coaching position. He served as an assistant for nine years under coach Joe Gaddis at Oak Ridge. Miner also played for Gaddis.

Hardin Valley athletic director Bryan Brown said Miner's history in a variety of assistant coaching positions made him a strong candidate to take over the Hawks' program.

"(Defensive coordinator) is where he has spent most of his time, but he's coached pretty much all positions going on the offensive side of the ball as well," Brown said. "We're looking forward to him being our head coach and filling out his staff with what he feels is the best staff for us to move our program forward."

Brown said Hardin Valley is also excited to add Miner to its teaching staff. He taught science at Oak Ridge and was recognized as the 2021 Teacher of the Year for Oak Ridge High School.
