Posting a home victory in a tri meet with Kentucky teams from Fort Campbell and Marshall County has the Henry County High School swim team members feeling good about the start to their season.

Swim coach Brian Williams says three HCHS swimmers have already qualified for the state championship in February while eight others have earn berths to the region championship in January. Williams believes more HCHS swimmers can qualify for these events through hard work in practice during the next two months.

The HCHS swim team began competing in 2017 with seven swimmers and now has grown to have 21 on the squad. Each year since 2018, the HCHS team has sent swimmers to the region and state championships while four swimmers have won Academic All-America honors.

Seniors David Richardson and team co-captain Sophie Harrison have clocked region qualifying times in the 100 free and 100 breaststroke.

Co-captain Hunter Miller has locked down spots in both the region and state meets with fast times in the 100 backstroke and 100 free.

Senior Amelia Hart was expected to bring experience to this year’s squad but has been out of action so far because of back surgery.

Returning juniors Will Wardlaw, Paul Tusa and Charlotte Coulston have all earned spots at the region championships. Sara Mathis has qualified in the 100 free for the state meet while also earning region berths in the 400 free, 200 free, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley.

Williams says Dalton Dodd, Landon Marshall, Claire Dickson, Pearl Davis and Ashlyn Aaron are swimmers who have made significant gains in scoring points each meet.

A strong freshman class has added depth with Audrey Hill earning a state qualifying time in the 100 backstroke and a region time in the 100 free. Ella Marshall, Kyleigh Miller and Emma Grace Dotson have all qualified for the region championships.
