The Monterey Wildcats lost to First Baptist Academy 44-64 on Saturday night at Pickett County.

“We fought, we were resilient and we were tough,” said Monterey head coach Lynus Martin. “Didn’t seem like a lot of things went our way late, got down early and subbed out because I thought we needed some different energy…I thought they pressured us and put their hands on us, but that is not the reason we lost. We’ve got to do a better job with basketball making decisions and being tougher at the end.”

For Monterey, senior Silas Randolph led with 19 points. Junior Brandon Dillon scored nine points. Senior Jordan Lowhorn tallied six points. Jeston Clough added three points.

The Wildcats will travel to Van Buren County on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

“It’s just being more tough in those situations because when you go play certain teams you won’t have kids that guard you like that, that are that quick, that athletic, or that tough,” said Martin. “It Makes you be in big moment situations where you learn to make a play. Can you get a big shot or a big stop or a rebound and if you can then you learn how to… so the next time you’re in that situation you know how to win.”
