CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Academy Cougars are one of two area teams playing district games before the month of January. The Cougars will have two district opponents this week, including their game on Friday against Davidson Academy.

The Eddie Ricks factor

The Cougars have a lot to be excited about this season with several talented players on their roster, but one player that has been drawing a lot of attention is small forward Eddie Ricks III. Ricks has already led the Cougars in scoring in multiple games this season and is a special talent for the Cougars.

“He is a special player,” said Cougars head coach Tyler Hickman. “Obviously talented and trying to learn and grow every day, but really he is a good teammate. Our team has really grown because of him.”

Ricks is already averaging 23.4 points per game so far this season and gaining more attention from major universities including Ole Miss, Cincinnati and Virginia Tech to name a few.

Early district test

The Cougars will get an early test against their district on Friday with Davidson Academy coming to town, and while other teams still have several weeks before getting into the district games, Clarksville Academy is viewing this as an advantage.

“I think it’s kind of give and take, and it kind of depends on where you are and how you feel about your program. I’m excited about it. I think it is good for going into break depending on where you are in the district knowing that you may have two under your belt or be 1-1 or whatever before going into Christmas tournaments, and we play some tough competition,” said Hickman.

Up next

The Cougars will have a tough schedule over the next few weeks as they face off with district foes including Friday’s matchup at home with Davidson Academy. They will also battle with Clarksville High School next Thursday, Dec. 16, at William Workman Gymnasium. Before the month is over, CA will travel to Panama City Beach to play in a tournament against several teams from Florida.
