NEW TAZEWELL – Grainger’s Rusty Bishop picked up his 500th career coaching win Tuesday night as the Lady Grizzlies downed Claiborne 53-33.
Bishop has seen action as a head coach in several sports throughout his career. He went 138-66 as the co-head coach of the baseball teams at the old Rutledge High School as well as at Grainger, compiled a 251-171 record as head softball coach at Grainger and is now 111-19 as the head coach of the Lady Grizzlies’ basketball team.
Alia Maloney scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the win for Grainger. Maddie Hurst scored 10 for the Lady Grizz. Claiborne was led in scoring by Emma Myatt who finished the game with 10 points.
Grainger is now 14-4 on the season and 2-0 in district play. The seventh-ranked Lady Grizzlies will face their biggest test of the season Friday night when they host second-ranked Greeneville at The Den.
Grainger cruises to 16th straight win with victory over Claiborne
NEW TAZEWELL- Fresh off their highest ranking in school history, the third-ranked Grainger Grizzlies ran their win streak to 16 straight games as they picked up their second district win in a 78-50 win at Claiborne Tuesday night.
Emmanuel Atkins continues to scorch the nets for Grainger as he scored 24 points to lead his team. The Grizzlies used a balanced scoring effort as Jaxon Williams scored 15 points, Landon Patterson netted 13 and Drew Branson added 10. The Bulldogs were led by Ethan Cupp who had 18 points in the loss, followed by 12 points from Zack Bailey and 11 from Levi Peoples.
Grainger is now 16-1 on the season and will host a monster game at The Den Friday night as they welcome defending state champion and fourth-ranked Greeneville to Rutledge.
