Webb School's Abby Faith Cheeseman named Tennessee girls cross country player of the year

Webb Bell-Buckle freshman Abby Faith Cheeseman has been named Tennessee Girls cross country player of the year.

The Gatorade Player of the Year is based on athletic and academic performance as well as exemplary character shown on and off the field. Cheeseman is now a finalist for Gatorade's national player of the year award, which will be announced in February.

Cheeseman repeated as the Division II-A girls state champion knocking a full 1:19 off of her 2020 time finishing the 2021 championship race in  17:26.91. Her time was a full 1:31.67 ahead of the second-place finisher.

Her time was also the fastest of any girl during the two-day event held at Sanders Ferry Park.

Following the season, Cheeseman finished fourth at the Eastbay South Regional Championships. She was the only freshman girl to qualify for the national Eastbay Cross Country Championships where she finished 31st.

According to MileSplit.com, Cheeseman is ranked as the No. 19 runner in the country.

Cheeseman also boasts a 4.3 GPA in the classroom.
