Lady Feet knock off LCA to reach state semifinals

BELL BUCKLE — In the Division II-A Girl’s Quarterfinals matchup between the Webb Lady Feet and the Lakeway Christian Academy Lady Lions on Friday night, it was a close contest for a good part of the first quarter until the Lady Feet caught fire and coasted to a 84-46 victory, punching their ticket to the Semifinals.
The Lady Lions showed a lot of fight to open the game as they held a two-point lead within the first two minutes, but the Lady Feet were able to knock down open shots that led to a 18-2 run.
Halli Stuflle knocked down a 3-pointer for LCA at the 1:57-minute mark to stop the Webb run.
She hit two shots from behind the arc in the quarter and finished with four in the game.
The Lady Feet knocked down five 3-pointers of their own in the first frame, and five total players contributed to the scoreboard.
“They were trying to guard Aaliyah with three people and we just had people wide open,” Lady Feet coach Matthew Shewmake said. “It was just target practice for us.”
“Anytime you shoot the ball well it makes the game a lot easier.”
Rhema Collins and Bre’Aria Cannon led the Lady Feet in the first frame with eight and nine points respectively.
They finished with 17 and 18 points in the game, leading all scorers.
The Lady Feet continued their dominance in the second quarter with 17 points while holding the Lady Lions to nine.
Three more players contributed for Webb in the quarter, and they finished the game with nine total players scoring while LCA had six reach the scorebook.
“I think every team wants depth,” Shewmake said. “Depth alleviates foul trouble, fatigue, and keeps us fresher.”
“If anyone is having an off night, someone else can step up.”
“Whoever was open tonight, it was to throw them the ball and let them shoot.”
Opening the second half, the Lady Lions saw an explosion of offense that led to their best scoring quarter of the game with 18 points, but the Lady Feet kept their pace up with 25 points in the third quarter behind four three-pointers.
They totaled 10 3-pointers over the course of the contest.
To close out the contest, Webb held LCA to five points while scoring 15 of their own.
Aalyah Del Roasario scored four of her 12 points in the final frame for the Lady Feet.
With the Semifinals approaching, the Lady Feet are focused on the task at hand and getting better every day.
“We have to continue to be our very best version of ourselves,” Shewmake said. “We say at practice all the time, ‘you never go broke making a profit.’”
“So just continue to keep working, and don’t over coach or over play.”
On Friday, the Lady Feet will take on a district opponent, Middle Tennessee Christian School, in the State Semifinals held at Tennessee Tech University.
