Farragut girls basketball eliminates Oak Ridge with victory in Region 2-4A semifinal

Farragut girls basketball delivered Oak Ridge just its second lost in 17 games and eliminated the Wildcats from the postseason, winning the Region 2-4A semifinal 40-31.

The game was low scoring throughout — it was 20-16 at halftime — but the Admirals' defense prevailed, holding Oak Ridge to 15 points in the second half. Farragut was led in scoring by senior Power 5 prospect Avery Strickland with 17 points. Oak Ridge was led by freshman Ze'Yana, who scored all but three of the team's fourth quarter points and finished with 12.

In the 2021 region tournament, Oak Ridge beat Farragut 67-58. The Wildcats were also seeded above Farragut this season after they won the District 3 championship. Farragut lost the District 4 final to Bearden.

The Admirals advance to the region championship game against Bearden at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Farragut lost to Bearden twice in the regular season in addition to the district championship.
