A strong swimming stroke is carrying Henry County High School senior Hunter Miller to attend the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.

Miller announced on Wednesday during a press conference at HCHS that he is accepting a scholarship to join the swim team at the The Cumberlands. He is the son of George and Miranda Miller of Paris.

He has been a member of the HCHS swim team and soccer team for four years. Under the guidance of HCHS swim coach Brian Williams, Miller has been to the state’s region swim meet all four years while advancing to state competition three times. He served as the swim team captain for the 2021-22 season.

Miller was ranked in the top 40 for the backstroke in Tennessee this season when he placed ninth in the 100-yard backstroke race in regional competition. He holds the HCHS record time in that event.

“High school sports have taught me many different qualities that will help me through life,” Miller said. “Trustworthiness and leadership are the qualities that I will take and use my whole life.”

Miller talked about how lucky HCHS was to have a swim team because many nearby school systems don’t sponsor swimming.

“I would like to thank my coaches for always pushing me in swimming. I also would like to thank all my friends and family for the constant support and encouragement,” Miller said.
