The Cookeville Lady Cavs answered an early goal from Christian Academy of Knoxville with seven straight goals of their own in a dominant 18-3 victory on Wednesday night.

After the visitors scored just a minute and a half into the contest, the Lady Cavs took immediate control right back with a goal at the 3:19 mark. Cookeville went on to score six more goals before CAK could find the back of the net again.

This included a 50-second stretch that saw the Lady Cavs score three times to spread the lead out. By the time halftime arrived, Cookeville found themselves holding a 7-2 lead.

The Lady Cavs pulled away in the second half, scoring nine times before CAK’s last goal to push the lead as high as 16-2. A goal with just ten seconds left brought the game to its final margin of 18-3 in favor of CHS.

For head coach Resa Roberts, she says she was most pleased with how her team communicated on Wednesday night.

“I saw a lot of communication and teamwork, things that we’ve been working on,” Roberts said. “We’ve really been working on that, and we added in some new plays that came together nicely.”

While the scoreboard read as a dominant win, Roberts says she would’ve liked a slightly better start than being down 1-0.

“We had a lot of turnovers in the first half, and we did a lot better about that in the second,” Roberts said. “We still need to work on our fast break and just completing those down the field.”
