Peabody didn't have to search far for their new boys basketball coach.

The school named girls basketball coach Michael Hart as the new boys basketball coach on Friday. The hiring comes less than a month after Wes Miller resigned and accepted the job at Henry County.

Hart has been the Peabody girls coach for the past 10 seasons. He led the program to a 15-13 record and the District 14-1A championship this season. He has led the team to a 165-137 record and a state tournament appearance in 2021 during his tenure.

He will coach both teams.

"He's a good person and done a solid job with our girls program. His standards for our girls program is exactly what we we would look for to be the standard in our boys program," said Peabody principal Shane Jacobs. "So, we thought he was a natural fit. He's coached boys before and he will have no problem coaching boys and girls and I think our program will be in good hands as long as he's running both programs."

Miller led the Golden Tide to a 25-10 record and the Class 1A championship game this season. Peabody went 106-55 during Miller's tenure.

Hart previously coached at Gibson County prior to being at Peabody.

He also played college basketball for UT Martin and was named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year for the 1994-95 season after averaging 18.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
