Bartlett basketball standout Amarr Knox committed to Alabama State on Tuesday during an appearance on The Doc Holliday Show broadcast on YouTube.

"It felt like home when I got there," Knox said on the show.

Knox, a 3-star point guard, committed to Memphis on Jan. 1, 2021, but decommitted soon after. He had interest from a few schools, including UT Martin and South Carolina State, before choosing Alabama State.

Alabama State is coached by Tony Madlock, a Memphis assistant when Knox committed to Tigers.

Knox led Bartlett (34-7) back to the TSSAA state tournament for the first time since 2001 and it came within a shot of playing for a state championship game. It lost 70-69 at the buzzer to eventual state champion Dobyns-Bennett.

Knox averaged 18 points his senior season — including 33 points in his final high school game with the Panthers — and was a Class 4A Mr. Basketball Finalist.

Knox transferred to Bartlett from Memphis Central before his junior year after COVID-19 shut down the 2020-21 season for Memphis-Shelby County Schools.
