Longtime Hendersonville boys basketball coach and Belmont Hall of Famer Eddie Greer dies at 84

Longtime boys high school basketball coach Eddie Greer, who won 704 games in his career, died Wednesday night. He was 84.

Greer was an All-Nashville Interscholastic School center who helped lead West High to the 1954 state championship.

He went on to play at Belmont where he was the team captain in his junior and senior seasons.

Eddie Greer, who spent 22 years as the boys basketball coach at Hendersonville, died Wednesday night.

Greer then embarked on his high school coaching career, which included 22 seasons at Hendersonville.

Twelve of Greer's Hendersonville teams reached the regional tournament. His 1976 team went 25-5 and made it to the sub-state before being eliminated by Pearl, which went on to win the state championship.

Greer left Hendersonville after the 1989 season to become the coach at Franklin Road Academy. His record at Hendersonville was 306-285.

He also had coaching stints at old Hillsboro High in Williamson County where he coached the boys and girls teams, Davidson Academy, College Heights Christian Academy and Ellis Middle School.

Greer was inducted into the Belmont Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985.

Funeral services will be at Hendersonville First Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
