The McCallie lacrosse team jumped out to a 7-1 lead after one period Saturday en route to a 17-9 victory over Memphis University School to win the Tennessee Scholastic Lacrosse Association’s Division II-AAA State Championship.
Chattanooga captured three of the four state divisions as Boyd Buchanan and Soddy daisy also won for their respective divisions.
The Blue Tornado outscored the Owls 10-8 after the opening quarter, leading 10-3 at halftime and 15-6 heading into the final period.
Senior Jackson Sikura led the offensive attack with four goals.
Senior William Riddle and junior Jetty Miller scored three goals apiece. Senior Kane Smith and sophomore Zach Chari chipped in with two goals each. Jack Forrester, Weston Hammond and Matthew Mathias all netted single goals.
Junior goalkeeper Will Owen went the distance in the net for McCallie in the game played at Nolensville High School.
The title was the ninth overall for the Blue Tornado and first since 2015. It was the first for third-year head coach Eamon Thornton.
Boyd Buchanan won in their division.
