After trailing 6-3 at the half, the Soddy Daisy (14-4) lacrosse team rallied past defending champion Hillsboro (13-3) Friday evening for an 8-6 victory to win the Tennessee Scholastic Lacrosse Association’s Division I-A State Championship.
The fourteen total wins is a season record for the Trojans.
The game was especially emotional for Soddy Daisy. Senior Captain Ryan Beihoffer was diagnosed with Leukemia mid-season. While Ryan is thankfully in recovery, he is still a key leader and inspiration for this team.
Senior Paul Schofield led the offensive attack with three goals, giving him a state leading (all divisions) 61 goals for the season.
Junior Colin Hart scored two goals. Seniors Kennedy Moore and Sam Schofield both scored a goal and had two assists apiece. Freshman Deegan Workman also netted a single goal.
Sam Schofield dominated faceoffs, winning twelve out of seventeen as well as scooping up a game high 12 ground balls.
Junior goalkeeper Jameson Koch went the distance in the net for Soddy Daisy collecting an amazing twenty-four saves in the game played at Nolensville High School.
The title was the second overall for the Trojans and first since 2019. It was the first for third-year head coach Andrew Karpinko. Soddy Daisy has played in three out of the last four state championship games in their division.
