Tim James has stepped down as head football coach and athletic director at East Ridge High School to accept the position of Hamilton County athletic director.

Over two stints at East Ridge, James taught and coached for more than 20 years at the school, with stops in between as football coach at Georgia programs Heritage and LaFayette. During his 30-year career in education, James also worked at Loftis Middle, Central High and since returning to East Ridge, he also worked as assistant principal and track coach.

"It's an honor to be asked to oversee athletics throughout Hamilton County," James said. "It's my mission to make our county's athletics second to none in every respect.

"I have invested a lot of time and energy into East Ridge and have enjoyed my time there. Now I'm ready for this new challenge."

During his career with the Pioneers, James guided the football program to three quarterfinal appearances and two region championships.

"Leadership matters at every level of our district," Hamilton County schools superintendent Dr. Justin Robertson said. "It is imperative that we keep moving forward so that all our students thrive and have an educational experience that lifts them to their highest potential."
