"It's going to be difficult to follow coach Burnham. He has been here so long and has been such a pillar in our athletic department — especially in girls basketball," said Hardin County athletic director Matthew Smith. "But we were looking for somebody who is passionate about the game and was going to bring a great work ethic and I think we certainly found that in coach Kirk."

Under Burnham the program won 430 games, eight district titles, two region titles and made state tournament appearances in 1998 and 2021.

Last season, the Lady Tigers went 18-9 and won the District 11-3A title and reached the Class 3A sectional game.

This will be Kirk's third season with the program.
