Jackson Christian hires Tony Shutes to be new girls basketball coach

Jackson Christian hired Tony Shutes to be their next girls basketball coach. 

Shutes coached at USJ from 1991-2021, comes over after one season with Jackson Central-Merry.

The Lady Cougars  its returned to the court after the school shut down in 2016.  They went 12-12 reaching  the District 12-1A championship game.  

Shutes has 591 career wins, 22 district titles, seven region titles and five state semifinal appearances. He replaces Bryon Freeman, who led the Lady Eagles to a 15-11 record and the Division II-A West quarterfinals this season.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Shutes into the Jackson Christian family,” Athletic Director and Dean of Students Jason Shelton said in a press release. “His record and ability to teach the game speaks for itself. More importantly, we believe he will coach our young ladies in all aspects of their lives on and off the court, as he has done for so many others in his career.”
