Meet the Knox News All-PrepXtra high school girls and boys lacrosse teams for 2022

Six members of the Knox News All-PrepXtra boys and girls lacrosse teams are nominees for the lacrosse player of the year. The winner will be announced on June 9 at the Knoxville High School Sports Awards presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans.

Girls nominees

Leslie Clay

Seymour, Jr.

Position: Attack

Why chosen: Clay, who was named to the All-State team, led Seymour in assists with 46 and scored 55 goals. She also collected 22 ground balls and caused 43 turnovers.

Molly Daniels

Pigeon Forge, Sr.

Position: Goalkeeper

Why chosen: Daniels was named to the All-East 1 region team, recording 100 saves and a 53.76% save percentage.

Halle Dykes

Bearden, Sr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: Dykes was named to the All-State team and led the East 2 region in scoring with 57 goals and 10 assists. She also collected 56 ground balls and won 60 draw controls.

Kayla Harrington

Seymour, Sr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: The Lincoln Memorial commitment was named to the All-State team and led the East 1 region in scoring with 84 goals and 17 assists. She won 134 draw controls, caused 39 turnovers and picked up 41 ground balls.

Halle Hensley

Pigeon Forge, Sr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: The Lincoln Memorial commitment led Pigeon Forge in scoring with 47 goals and 10 assists. She won 85 draw controls, caused 37 turnovers and collected 53 ground balls.

Jessie McKilligan

Seymour, Jr.

Position: Attack

Why chosen: McKilligan was named to the All-State team and was Seymour's No. 2 scorer with 62 goals and 29 assists. She picked up 33 ground balls, caused 26 turnovers and won 82 draw controls.

Payton Arline

Bearden, Jr.

Position: Defense

Why chosen: Arline was selected to the All-East 2 region team and led teh Bearden defense with 68 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers. She also scored 17 goals and had 10 assists.

Emma Limestahl

Gatlinburg-Pittman, So.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: Limestahl, an All-East 1 region team selection, led the Highlanders' offense with 43 goals and 17 assists. She also picked up 30 ground balls and caused 17 turnovers.

Maci McWhirter

Farragut, Sr.

Position: Attack

Why chosen: McWhirter, who was named to the All-East 2 region team, led Farragut in assists with 33 and also scored 29 goals. She also picked up 21 ground balls.

Caroline Rauhuff

Seymour, So.

Position: Defense

Why chosen: Rauhuff was selected to the All-East 1 region team and helped lead a Seymour defense that held nine opponents to three goals or fewer. She picked up 29 ground balls and caused 22 turnovers.

Paiton Whaley

Pigeon Forge, Sr.

Position: Defense

Why chosen: Whaley was selected to the All-East 1 region team and led the Pigeon Forge defense with 31 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers and nine goals.

Boys nominees

Caleb Damron

Farragut, Sr.

Position: Attack

Why chosen: Damron was selected to the Division I all-state team and led the Farragut offense with 29 goals, 23 assists and 27 ground ball pickups.

Liam Devlin

Webb, Sr.

Position: Defense

Why: Devlin led Webb in ground balls with 99, setting a school record for pickups by a non-face-off specialist. He also led the team in forced turnovers with 26 and was the fifth leading scorer with 20 goals and 11 assists. He was selected to the Division II all-state team.

Davis Frost

Christian Academy of Knoxville, Sr.

Position: Attack

Why chosen: The Alabama-Huntsville signee was selected to the Division II all-state team and led the East region in scoring with 53 goals and seven assists. He also picked up 51 ground ball and had 16 takeaways.

Baxter Johnson

Webb, 8th grade

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: Johnson is believed to be the first eighth grader ever named to the Division II all-state team. He recorded 21 goals, 17 assists, 64 ground balls and 24 takeaways.

Hank Johnson

Webb, Jr.

Position: Goalkeeper

Why chosen: Johnson was selected to the Division II all-state team for the second year in a row. He made 135 saves, recording a 64% save percentage and also collecting 21 ground balls.

Sam Lefler

Farragut, Sr.

Position: Face-off specialist

Why chosen: Lefler, who was selected to the All-East region team, won 127 faceoffs on 181 attempts for a 70% win percentage. He collected 75 ground balls, scored four goals and logged four assists.

Garrett Carnathan

Webb, Sr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: Carnathan recorded 20 goals, 15 assists, 77 ground balls and 15 takeaways. He was selected to the Division II all-state team.

Oliver Hemmelgarn

West, Jr.

Position: Attack

Why chosen: Hemmelgarn led the West offense with 24 goals, 12 assists and 34 ground ball pickups. He was selected to the All-East region team.

Hunter Loucks

West, So.

Position: Long stick midfielder

Why chosen: Loucks was selected to the All-East region team, logging 62 ground ball pickups and eight takeaways.

Eli Milam

Christian Academy of Knoxville, Jr.

Position: Defense

Why chosen: Milam was selected to the Division II all-state team. He recorded 37 ground balls and 19 takeaways.

Torin Piper

Christian Academy of Knoxville, Jr.

Position: Defense 

Why chosen: Despite missing the first five games of the season, Piper recorded 30 ground ball pickups and 19 takeaways in just 10 games. He was selected to the Division II All-East region team.

Grayson Staley

Christian Academy of Knoxville, Jr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: Staley was selected to the Division II All-East region team. He recorded 19 goals, four assists and eight takeaways.
