CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Academy announced the hire of Matt Hoppe as the school’s new athletic director and boy’s basketball coach on Monday. Hoppe comes into the position with over 25 years of coaching experience.

Most recently, he coached Brentwood Academy’s boys basketball team. According to Clarksville Academy, Hoppe compiled a record of 70-12 over a three-year period. He had quite a bit of success during his time at Brentwood. This includes accomplishments such as a state runner-up finish, a final four, a quarterfinal appearance, two D-II AA Middle Region Championships and he coached two Mr. Basketball finalists.

Prior to being the head coach at Brentwood, he served as an assistant coach for the team. During this period of time, he helped coach three time D-II AA Mr. Basketball winner and current Cleveland Cavalier Darius Garland. Hoppe is no stranger to being around and coaching top tier talent.

In addition to his coaching background, Hoppe has experience managing the London Pulse Basketball Club. According to Clarksville Academy, this club is one of the largest and most successful youth sports organizations in London today.

“Matt Hoppe was a standout candidate for both our athletic director and head basketball positions,” said Head of School representative Jennifer Hinote. “His passion for athletics, competitive spirit, and knowledge of independent schools made him the ultimate choice for athletic director. His knowledge of the game and experience at the DII level made him the clear choice for varsity basketball head coach. We are proud to welcome Coach Hoppe to Clarksville Academy.”

During the news conference, Hoppe said becoming an athletic director is something he’s always wanted to do and a challenge he’s always wanted to take on. Hoppe is also eager to lead the “prominent, successful” boy’s basketball program into the future.

“I’m ready for the opportunity to combine two things I’m passionate about in this next step of my career,” said Hoppe. “I look forward to build off the recent success the Cougars have found throughout various different sports. As athletic director, my goal is to help them sustain their success, and push them to get better.”

Hoppe plans to prioritize building relationships with coaches and student-athletes when he begins his new position on July 11. This includes implementing an open door policy, he said, so that he can support his staff and students on and off the field of play.
